William & Mary Child Language Lab

Interested in having your child participate in Linguistics research?

Who are we?

We are a team of experienced faculty and undergraduate students studying children's language development at the William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia

What do we do?

We conduct 15-25 minute studies involving engaging stories, short videos, and fun games to look at how children learn their first language(s). Some of the studies are conducted in person, either in our lab space in Tucker Hall, some are conducted at local schools, and some are completely remote!

Current Studies

Virtual Adjective Learning

We're currently recruiting kids between 8-9 years old for completely virtual study on adjective learning! Your child will watch a series of short videoes where actors have conversations using  series of novel adjectives. Your child will be asked to guess what they think the adjectives mean.

This study is entirely remote and can be done on your own time-- no appointment needed! The study will take about 10 minutes for you and your child to complete. If you are interested in participating, you can click this link to access the survey!

Determiners

We're currently recruiting kids between 3-5 years old for production study looking at kids' use of 'a' and 'the'. In this task, kids will be helping a researcher "write stories" by helping to fill in some words. The study takes about 10 minutes, and kids usually have a lot of fun helping create the stories.
